Meticulous replica of a 19th C. British officer’s campaign chair. Chair features heavy, hand stitched oiled bridle leather in British tan color. Campaign chair has brass hardware and hand-turned maple wood parts.
Gently worn, antiqued leather. Honey finished solid wood assembly frame. Originally designed by London Army & Navy purveyors for Imperial Army officers on the move. Legs and frame rolled up inside the canvas seat, or if luxury was called for, leather. Then in the 1920’s taken by European settlers of the Argentina pampas, it became the gaucho’s stock for trade. Antique ones now populate living rooms of haciendas in Argentina and Uruguay. Designed to function on uneven footing, their flexibility surprises. Guess being on a horse all day made gauchos appreciate the gentle movement of this truly magical chair with a macho provenance.
