There is an apparent reason why the kitchen is referred to as The Heart of the Home. Everyone always tends to congregate in this wonderful space where all the sense is awoken, and the magic of human connections is cultivated. Naturally, one of the most popular in-kitchen hang out places is a kitchen island or peninsula that also serves as an eating bar.ted across Europe and the rest of the world. When planning your kitchen island or bar space, the critical thing to remember is that each adult requires at least 21 inches of counter space. That means that a typical counter is usually about 63 inches long and will accommodate three stools at most.

The type of seating you need will depend on your counter height. If your counter height is between 28 and 32 inches, you will need a 18" high chairs with 20 inches of knee space under the bar.

If your design has been chosen to make the island or peninsula the same height as the rest of your kitchen countertops (36" being the standard), you're going to need 24" high counter stools and 14 inches of knee space underneath the counter. If you go up to bar height (42 to 45"), you will need 30" high stools with footrests, giving 14 inches of allowance for knee space comfort.
