Why Occasional Chairs Shouldn't be Used Occasionally

Every room in your home needs a comfortable yet stylish place to rest your weary bones. Here's where occasional chairs come to the rescue, offering a spot for relaxation while taking up little in the way of floor space. In addition, beautifully-crafted occasional chairs can quickly elevate the level of style in the entire room.

Elegant and portable, occasional chairs are probably the ultimate in comfortable yet functional furniture. You see these chairs most often in a dining or living room configuration, but it's important to think outside the box as to where an occasional chair can add a sense of grace and beauty as well as a comfortable place to sit.

You can consider the merits of adding occasional chairs in a room from two viewpoints: functional or decorative. In some cases, the two viewpoints will happily merge, and the addition of the right occasional chair satisfies both the need for a functional place to sit and the need for adding an elegant decorative piece to the room's interior.

So apart from dining and living rooms, where are good spots to use occasional chairs? Ah, the list is long. For a start, think about bedrooms. An occasional chair can be the ideal piece of furniture for sitting in to put on shoes, to hold tomorrow's outfit, or in which to read a favorite book. Now think about other areas of the house: the hallway, the kitchen, the family room, and the home office. Occasional chairs can be perfectly at home in any of these places, bringing a touch of elegance as well as function to each of these rooms. One of the best features of occasional chairs is that it takes up very little room in exchange for the decorative impact that they can provide.

If you do use occasional chairs in situations where spills are possible, as in the dining room or kitchen, it's a good idea to apply a fabric treatment to the cushions to help the chair to resist stains. You never know when an errant spill might occur, and you'll want to do all that you can to protect your beautiful chairs.

So go ahead, introduce an elegant and useful chair into just about any room in your home. You'll enjoy having an inviting and beautiful place to relax, as will your family members and friends.
