Maximize the Impact of your Staircase as a Decorative Element in your Home
A staircase is so much more than just a means to move from one floor to another floor. It’s a focal point for the home, a way to set the tone and mood for a room, and an expression of your style and taste. Embellishments for your staircase can show off your staircase to its greatest advantage; think about details such as stair brackets, balusters, and a newel post for the largest impact.
Whether the staircase in your home is circular, a graceful partial curve, or straight, there’s no denying that it has a huge impact on the look and feel of your home. While it’s rarely practical to make structural changes to your existing staircase, there are a number of steps you can easily take to enhance the look of your staircase without incurring too great of a cost in money or in physical effort.
For example, take a look at the staircase railing in your home. While it serves as an important functional component of the staircase, you can dramatically change the look of the railing by adding decorative balusters and newel post. Together, these two elements from a significant part of the overall look of your staircase, so consider the choice of balusters and newel posts to achieve the style and elegance for which you are hoping. Are you trying for a period look with your staircase, something that is in concert with your home’s historic roots? Or is a contemporary streamlined look more the style that you are looking to accomplish? Whatever your intentions, these architectural embellishments can help to turn your staircase into the defining focal point of your home’s decor.
Don’t forget about the huge impact that something as small as stair brackets can provide. These special embellishments, while purely decorative in nature, enhance and set off each stair with a finishing element. While many homeowners expect to see stair brackets in homes of a certain style and period, the truth of the matter is that today’s wide variety of bracket styles means that any staircase can sport these beautiful details. No matter if your home’s interior look leans toward traditional, cottage, or modern, there’s a stair bracket design that will help to complement the look of your staircase and add the special extra something that turns your ordinary staircase into the element of your home of which you are most proud.

I definetly agree that stair brackets can make a dramatic change to a staircase. We recently added hand carved wood brackets to our staircase and the extra detail really pops.

I’ve never thought about embellishing staircases. After seeing the examples of what the stair brackets look like, I have to agree. What a great way to add finishing touches.

Balusters and newels are a great way to make your staircase stand out. I have been impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of the balusters on this site. My husband and I have purchased them for our new home and we couldn’t be more pleased.

So true.. A staircase can be one of the main focal points to the entire home–especially if you take the time and energy to make it beatiful. It can add beauty, design, and even money to your home… so on behalf of all the contractors out there, I would like to say, “take the time to make your home beautiful.” It is the place that gives you happiness and should be a source of pride for you!

For some reason, I always thought those little staircase embellishments were part of the actual staircase. It is nice to know I can add them to my own staircase without having to build a new one.

I think staircases are important. (It might be because I am someone who specializes in staircases). It is nice to see appliques and stair brackets that can easily enhance a staircase. And they’re easy to install.

I am about to completely redo my stairs. Whoever built the house definitely had a more simplistic style in mind, however my wife has much more… ahem… eclectic taste. So we have decided to put in some great balusters and newels that will add a lot of character to our home. The stair brackets are a great idea that I will be showing to my wife. I am sure she will love them.
