Environmentally Safe Green Molding and Architectural Products
We are proud to say that we offer only those products which are 100% CFC/HCFC free.
Our lines of Molding and Adhesives for molding installation also do not contain harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. It is a colorless, strong-smelling gas that has been used quite profusely in building materials and many household products.
Its most common use is in adhesives and the adhesive that is used in pressed wood products such as MDF moldings and baseboards. You might have heard about it in the news in regards to the FEMA trailers used in the recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina.
It is usually present in no more than .06 parts per million, but if it ever reaches. 1 parts per million or more it may cause side effects such as respiratory problems, burning and watery eyes, burning sensation in nose and throat, nausea, coughing, tightness in chest, wheezing, and/or skin reactions (such as rashes).
Formaldehyde was put on the list of carcinogenic elements. There is no certainty in the amount that would cause it—depends on the exposure type and duration of the exposure to the chemical. In a recent article in the New York Post (Friday, February15, 2008, “FEMA’ cane aid is Toxic”) Mike Stobbe described the situation where “Health officials are urging hurricane victims be moved out of their government issued trailers as soon as possible.
Apparently “in some trailers the levels were nearly 40 times customary exposure levels, raising fears that residents could contract respiratory problems.” Our homes should be our refuge not our undoing.
This is why InvitingHome.com has made such an effort to provide “people safe” and “environmentally friendly” moldings. They may be a bit more expensive, but since these moldings will be in our home for the rest of your life why would you want to fill your home with moldings that are harmful to our family and hazardous to the environment?
You can rest assured that all of our architectural products are green and that we are conscious of any other ways to be proactive in helping keep the environment clean. For example, our manufacturer has switched from petroleum to gas at its main manufacturing plant. Petroleum is mostly made up of hydrocarbons. As the hydrocarbons burns they create carbon dioxide, water, sulphur, and carbon monoxide. When natural gas is burnt, one molecule of carbon dioxide for every two water molecules is released, making it the cleaner fuel alternative. This change ends up lowering the carbon monoxide emission at the factory by 660,000 lbs a year. At InvitingHome.com we are also conscious to reuse packing material and all cardboard is sent to a recycling facility.
Our quality molding is incredibly durable (as strong or stronger than wood) with a tough, but extremely smooth surface. The high density molding save you time and money due to the fact that you do not have to prime them—they come pre-primed. It is not cumbersome because of how lightweight it is which makes it much easier to install and more fuel-efficient to ship.
With InvitingHome.com you are not sacrificing style or quality to help the environment or protect your family.

It is so scary to know that a lot of our old homes are toxic. And especially because a lot of people can’t really change their living situation so easily. It really is good to know that there are companies and manufacturers out there that produce these products. It’s not a complete solution, but it’s at least one large step in the right direction!

I never would have thought that some of the items in our homes emit this awful toxins into the air. With them being manufactured that way and knowing that they do release these harmful gases, I am switching to this polyurathane stuff right after Christmas. I just had a baby last month and knowing these things could potentially harm her is so scary. Maybe it’s one of those new mother jitters that my mom keeps telling me about, but I am so glad that someone has made me aware of this issue.

I know what you mean! It’s scary knowing that there are so many harmful things out there. I bought some crown molding from this side without even knowing about all of the harmful stuff the other moldings can put out, and I am so happy with my choice. It makes me feel better that I know I made the right decision.

Bravo! I really think it’s great that this is available. Those who are concerned about the environment have a way to decorate without hurting our environment. It’s like having another chain break from the oppression of the feeling of being restricted for those who want to go green but can’t because of how so many things out there today are not “green friendly”. I am so glad there are options out there!

This makes me feel a lot better. We had just purchased some polyurethane molding when our daughter came home and was talking all about the horrible toxins that are being pumped into our air systems. She had heard something about home renovations and wanted to make sure we were still doing our part by not hurting the planet that we live on. She (and I too for that matter) are thankful that there are solutions out there that still enables us to create a great environment INSIDE our house.

I am really happy to see that these moldings are CFC/HCFC free. I was reading an article about them, and since I have been becoming more and more environmentally aware, I freaked out when I saw that some moldings contain this stuff. Luckily, we purchased polyurethane so I don’t have anything to worry about.

I’m a contractor and I feel that a lot of people are becoming more and more aware of what exactly they are putting into their homes. It’s good knowing more people are caring about our environment.
- Edward, December 30th, 2008 at 10:37 am
I know! It’s sad that people are just now realizing what effect we have had on this planet. We’re killing it. It is products like these that will at least help out by not putting even more of those awful toxins into our air. Every little bit helps, right?
- Patricia, January 2nd, 2009 at 2:57 pm
But it’s also so great to see people care about the planet and develop products which would make it much easier to guarantee a green home and make it much better for you and your family as well. I am very happy as to how things are starting to turn around for the world in general.

My husband and I have been sitting around trying to think of ways that would make our quaint little home a lot more elegant. One of the things that I thought of was some really nice crown molding. You always see those in nicer better built homes. It does a lot for the homes presentation. They sell really nice and large selection of crown molding. They are another thing that I think really dresses up a home. I like that their products are CFC free, formaldehyde free, hypoallergenic, and recyclable. Which in this day and age is great. I am so glad that going through them takes out the guess work with safety. I would hate to think about buying something that looks great but that might make one of my boys sick. Another thing that I like about them is that they have an installation guide as well. Which is great for me since I have never installed anything like this before. But I am sure willing to give it a try. They even have some great decorating ideas. So that you can see what things go well together. Which I think is great.

Wow. I never would have thought that MOLDING would be environmentally friendly. With the technology they have today (and keep discovering!) I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. I think it is fantastic that even big corperations are doing their part in helping with the planet. It really makes me feeling better about utilizing different materials for traditional uses.
- Linda, January 14th, 2009 at 11:36 am
This makes me feel a little better about the environment. We keep hurting it and hurting it and we’ve got to stop. I really like how all of these moldings are so eco-friendly. It makes me glad that at least someone is helping and doing their part to help protect our planet.
- Tommy, January 20th, 2009 at 11:11 am
I agree. I think it’s great there are solutions for green design in the home. And the moldings available are absolutely fabulous. I can’t wait to show my clients. I think this is exactly the style they have been going for. And there is also indirect lighting. Fanstastic. This molding is great for my clients who have recently become aware of the environment.

I live in Chicago and I am a design student. Everywhere in Chicago is going green and I think that it is a great step towards helping the recovery of what we have been doing to our planet, or at least helping prevent any more damage that we are doing to it. This green molding is great and I have already used a couple of profiles for some design projects I have been working on for school. And I love how there are samples available! It makes it easier to give presentations, especially when I can pass the sample around and my professors can see what I am trying to do with my projects. Thank you for making it that much easier!

I like this idea of “going green”. I think it is smart to be so conscious about our environment. It’s about time people stood up to the plate to stop hurting our environment. I wish everyone would be on board with this idea, but at least I see it slowly creeping into more and more people’s minds. I have been noticing a lot of companies going green, as well as people using cloth bags at the grocery store instead of plastic, which is harmful for the environment as well. These polyurthane products are fantastic because it offers more opportunity to protect our evironment.

My wife has recently become obsessed with going green. She’s driving me crazy. We’ve been looking for some molding to go with the house and now she’s as happy as a clam. This polyurethane molding is just what the doctor ordered.
- Philip, March 16th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Well Philip it seems as though we ran into the same problem. My wife is also all about going green, and the more I listen to her go on and on about it I’m starting to realize that it really is a good thing, for us and for everyone. When I found out about eco-friendly molding she just couldn’t believe it, the best part was telling her about the adhesive too!
- Jimmy, April 16th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
I love your website but most of all I loved this article. I am one of those people who love being outdoors and definetly appreciate the environment in which we live. I am so happy that I found your website, here I was just going to order some molding for my living room, and to my surprise I’m actually helping the environment as well. I just read Jimmy’s comment and I couldn’t believe that the adhesive does not use any harsh chemicals either!! Going Green is the way to go!
